The fun mainly lies in exploring locations, completing quests and fighting waves of enemies. The combat system is arcade and very dynamic, but at the same time it is not devoid of a certain tactical layer – the correct sense of rhythm is of great importance here; By striking at the right pace, we can stun large groups of enemies.
A number of mechanics known from the main parts of the Persona series are returning – for example, we can develop our characters (they are specific “ghosts” who accompany the heroes and are responsible for their unusual abilities), spending special points, getting new ones (removing the masks left after some defeated enemies), and even combine them to create more powerful options. The game also has cards with skills that allow you to endow a person with a certain ability.
In the game, we have the ability to control not only the Joker (who, like in Persona 5, has the unique ability to change characters during combat), but also many other characters – mainly members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts team. The game allows you to freely switch between characters during the game – we can choose any person.
As with Persona 5, it’s also important to strengthen the bond between the heroes. For defeating enemies and reaching certain points in history, we receive points, called Bands, which we can invest in a series of statistics. Our heroes also learn in battle, eventually discovering special abilities – the so-called Master of Arts. The longer we play with this character, the more opportunities we have. Additionally, you can purchase consumables that improve combat effectiveness.
Persona 5 Strikers, which is also coming to PC, offers a nice 3D graphic design that has been done in a style similar to that of Persona 5. The characters and locations look like they were taken from an anime, and the animation, accompanying the battle, looks very impressive – the effects here deserve special attention, the lights accompanying the special abilities of the heroes. The soundtrack looks similar too – you can even load songs from the original game as DLC.
